Venom is stronger and has more versatile offensive capabilities, but Wolverine is arguably the worst possible opponent for a symbiote. Wolverine's adamantium claws can cut through virtually anything, including symbiote tissue, and his berserker rage means he will keep slashing until there is nothing left to regenerate.

The symbiote's regeneration is impressive but not unlimited — sustained damage from adamantium claws would wear it down faster than it can recover. Meanwhile, Wolverine's own healing factor means Venom's attacks, while painful, cannot put him down permanently. This creates a war of attrition that heavily favors Wolverine.

Venom's advantages in strength and reach are real — the symbiote can throw Wolverine around and use tendrils to keep him at distance. But Logan is experienced at fighting larger, stronger opponents and excels at getting inside their reach to deliver devastating close-range attacks.
