This is one of cinema's most legendary monster matchups, debated since the original 1962 film. In the Monsterverse, both creatures have been portrayed as incredibly powerful — Kong is the more agile and intelligent fighter, while Godzilla is the more durable and powerful combatant. Their 2021 film showdown gave a definitive answer: Godzilla won their direct confrontation.

Godzilla's atomic breath is the single biggest factor in this fight. It's a ranged weapon that can cut through buildings, melt steel, and has been shown to bore through the Earth's crust to reach the Hollow Earth. Kong has no equivalent ranged ability. While Kong's Battle Axe can absorb and redirect Godzilla's atomic energy, this requires getting close enough to catch the blast, which is extremely risky.

Kong's advantages are significant but not decisive. He is considerably more agile, more intelligent, and a better tool-user than Godzilla. His opposable thumbs let him wield weapons and grapple in ways Godzilla cannot. In the Monsterverse, Kong demonstrated impressive tactical thinking — using buildings as weapons, exploiting Godzilla's slower turning speed, and leveraging his agility to avoid attacks.

However, in their direct confrontation, Godzilla's superior durability and atomic breath proved too much. Kong was knocked down twice and would have been killed without human intervention. Godzilla simply hits harder, takes more punishment, and has a devastating ranged attack that Kong can only counter with one specific weapon.
