A 500-pound lion vs a 100-pound wolf — the wolf is built for pack hunting, not solo combat.
This is an extreme size mismatch. The lion outweighs the wolf roughly 5:1 and has vastly superior natural weapons — longer claws, bigger teeth, and a 650 PSI bite (vs the wolf's 400 PSI).
Wolves are pack hunters specifically because they can't compete with large predators individually. Their entire evolutionary strategy is built around teamwork, coordination, and wearing down prey through endurance. A single wolf against any big cat is hopelessly outmatched.
A pack of wolves (6-10) against a lion would be a much more interesting discussion. But one wolf? The lion wouldn't need more than one paw swipe.
5:1 weight advantage, superior claws, stronger bite, faster sprint speed. The lion regularly fights animals far more dangerous than a single wolf.
The wolf is faster over long distances and more agile. But it has no viable offensive tools against something 5x its size with armor-like muscle and mane protection.
The lion wins with zero difficulty. A single wolf simply doesn't have the physical tools for this fight. Wolves are incredible animals — in packs. Solo, they're middleweight fighters in a super-heavyweight world.
